One way to make the job easier is to rig a regulater with a 30-35 foot hose. This way, you leave the tank in the cockpit of the boat (preferably with a partner) and you don't have to drag all that gear with you underwater. Since you are able to hold on to running gear, the lack of a BC is not a problem.
