The anodized alum. pipes under the canvas on a half tower are gonna corrode unless taken care of on a near daily basis. When I became the Steward of AJ the PipeWelders half tower bows under the canvas top were pitted bad. Cleaned them up as best I could with bronze wool, Flitz, etc. Not feasible to do with acid without removing the laced-on canvas. Nothing is gonna put the finish back on once it's gone. A few years ago I ran into a booth at the FLL boat show where they had a ceramic coating process to restore pitted aluminum. Could be done in place, process is similar to powder coating, but uses a ceramic powder that is fused in place. Remember it was expensive and looked complicated. I probably have the borchure in a pile somewhere. Anybody tried this?
Of course, if you use Corrosion X from the get-go, this will never happen, but most of us that nurture these old boats acquire them in poor condition.
