John:
My boat lives in S. Jersey...i use Interlux Micron Extra...its an ablative paint with some sort of anti-slime additive. Stuff works super...but is expensive - around $160. This ablative paint is nice because it washes away over time and doesn't build up (its actually pretty soft stuff...when i go swimming i always get some on myslef, just by bunmping into the painted parts of the hull.) From what i understand, you can use this ablative paint over any of the hard/epoxy paints, but you can't use the hard paints over the ablative. I think you could make the switch if you'd like. In the long run, it might save you form having to blast your bottom and seal/repaint. I think most of the paint mfgs make ablative paints in various strengths and formulas for different water types...like i said, the Micron Extra works great for me, but i'm only a few hundred yards from an inlet, pure sea water, with lots of sun on my slip...i don't know how it would work in brackish water.
