Pitted Aluminum Tower

The areas under the soft top on my tower are pitted and have surface bumps where evidently the prior owner didn't rinse the salt off. I spoke to the guy from Atlantic Towers and he suggested sanding with very fine grit paper and rinsing. He said that would clean up the corrosion but not be deep enough to remove the anodizing.
Any suggestions as to what I can then protect and restore shine to the "sanded" areas and the rest of the tower with? Wax? CorrosionX? Polymer coating?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
