Sounds like exactly what happened to me. Once started, the engine performed perfectly all day, started immediately whenever I turned the key. Did the Racor thing, changed the hose and all fittings and had the same problem when the boat sat for a day or two. The lift pump was an easy change. 2 bolts hold it in with a hose feeding in and one coming out. Its a relatively inexpensive part. Your spare kit (if you bought one) may even have one. Once you change it, you'll probably have to prime the engine to get it started. Walter
