In Response To: New B31struts for 1 1/2" bearings (Paul Haggett)

Paul,

You may not need new struts... The 1 3/8" shafts were set up for a 1 7/8" O.D. cutlass bearing. By using a thin wall 1 1/2" I.D. bearing, you only need to have the strut tubes over bored to 2" I.D.

You'll only be removing 1/16" of wall thickness from the strut tube. Cost will probably be in the neighborhood of $125.00 plus the new bearings. After market struts will cost you around $900.00 per set. If you really do need new struts, they are only availabe through Danny Piedra at High Tide Marine, (see the links page...) Or, custom fabricated at roughly the same price range.

Be sure to have over boring done by a qualified prop shop, not some shade tree machine shop.

Best regards,

Patrick
