If you have a vibration in the driveline, the answer is not a flex coupling. The answer is to fix the problem.
As far as preventing tranny damage, in 30 years of boating I have only seen acouple of cases where it would have made a difference.

I have seen and repaired many more instances where the couplings have come apart and left a boater stranded.

If your going to use them, they are a disposable commodity.
I would replace them every three to four years.
