Just got my unit back from Garmin this morning. They "claim" they replaced the CPU and transfered my waypoints. Not at the boat, so I can't check it out the waypoint deal yet.

Nevertheless, I will swear they just took my s/n off my old unit and slapped it on a new or re-mfg unit. All the corrosion on the attachment screws and plugs is gone. Not just cleaned. Like it was never there. All the scars and fish stains from 7 years is gone. Buttons all have fresh painted letters (not the worn out, can't read them anymore, buttons on my old unit) Plus, they have plastic stick wrap on the screen, and its in a brand new box with a manual, warranty cards, antenna, with a new cover, and bracket. None of that was sent in by yours truly. I think they are moving old stock instead of actually making any repairs. Fine by me as long as they didn't kill my waypoints. Probably fine by me even if they ate my waypoints.
