Valve springs break because they are old or were defective in heat treatment from new or excessive heat. Sometime excessive RPM help it break. Any way, if there is any tension on the spring, the valve will close and run as if nothing is wrong. Change the spring and forget it till the next valv adjustment. Also check the other springs with a good light as close as you can get. If you find more brocken changing the set should be considered. By the way, how are the rocker arms. Any bent?
Good luck, faithfully yours,
Tony
