Sorry guys, I been busy protecting your bank accounts. Let's talk generators and some truths and myths as I see them:

1. Q: Too big a genset (more KW capacity than you need) will cause problems.

A: Bulls**t. In recreational use, say 500-2000 hours a year, any indirect injection small diesel, like the 3 cyl. Kubota, will run 10 or 15,000 hours without missing a beat, load or not. The myth is based on huge diesels that will cabron up the heads if not allowed to run under enough load to keep the ccmbustion temps up. This is relevant to a 16V149TT DD pulling a 2 MEGAWATT gen end.

2. Q: So, should I put as big a genset in as I can fit?

A: Yep, bigger the better, since we are talking 5-6 KW on the high side. The compact Phasor and Next Gen (Gino that owns Next Gen In JAX used to work for Phasor in Ponpano) 3.5 are nice compact units, but use high rpm and a belt drive to the gen end, are not as good in my view as the direct coupled 1800 rpm units both companies make.

Well, ran out of numbers. Bottom line is that the direct coupled 1800 rpm 3 cyl. Kubota powered units are near bulletproof, cost a few bucks more, but give you virtually unlimited capacity, and run forever with almost zero maintaince. And they don't need a sound box, running at 1800 they are real quiet.

Go big, go direct coupled, go 1800, go Kubota.
