Source for fuel economy figures?

A friend is looking at a '93 34' Baha Express w/ twin 454's and a supposed top speed of 50 mph. Not a speed boat, more of a kickass camper that floats. I cautioned him that such a craft might easily burn 30 gph. Is there a standard source for this kind of info? What do you think of my guess-timate?
