UV's one of the honest lawyers and one I would never want to be across from him in a court room.
He's got 800lbs of gorilla packed in that body.

Pat if you read this, we need to do a permanent page on this topic C vs. Y, to keep from reviewing it 4 times a year. We also, if not already done should have a page posted with each engine combo and the performance and fuel burn specs. If you like I will collect data and do a chart with the infromation on it.

Depending on the year of your 31 and the condition and composition of the stringers, the 4 cylinders may not need any stringer caps.

The mount feet have to rest solidly and 100% on material wheather it be a stringer, or stringer cap.

Some stringers are like a 2x4 laminated with 1/4 ply on either side. Not something I would mount a diesel to.

Any 6 cylinder will require reworking of the stringers.

Both are the same as far as installation goes.
Cummins has set guide lines on fuel hose, exhaust, water intake, battery cable, etc that must be met to pass inspection to certify.

The power curves are not the same do to different rpms.

The yanmar 6LP/315 only requires a 4" exhaust which makes it easier to install and fit under the deck.
That is about the only significant thing between the two.

Forget myths and legends about fuel economy. Boat maufacturers, engine makers and salesman all lie.

Ask someone who has them in a boat.
We have all flavors here.

If the 31 is setup correctly, tabs are not needed.

Too much HP and poor set up can push the bow over and cause serious safety concerns. The Grim Reaper is a fine example of what not to do in a 31 refit.

If you get a reputable dealer to do the install, leave it up to them.
