My 240 yanmars had some engine bed mods. Much of it was optional as to how far I chose to go.
I kept the same 4" exhaust, which is only possible with the Yanmar 240's. All other yanmar and cummins you will need to go at least to 5". I was able to keep the same shaft size, and that also is the only engine you will be able to do that with. All others will need 1.5 ". I bought new shafts because I wanted to, and because I needed slightly longer ones due to the engine placement. Not a big deal. I did need new props. Not a big deal.
Bottom line is that the 240 Yanmar is the closest drop in replacement for a big block gas motor that there is.
My cruise is 24 knots with an 10-11 gph burn. I also switched from the 440 chrysler pieces of crap. I put on 110 blissful trouble free, economical hours last year. I top out at 28-29 knots. Don't care what I burn.
