Ian, best thing you can do is to glass in a permanent bulkhead aft, with fore and aft panels above the stringers to isolate the outside compartments and not allow water into the bilge. I also make a custom, flat-topped engine cover that is far superior to the original in both looks and functionality. I think I have a pic somewhere, but if I don;t you'll have to wait until I dig out of the snow and take off the shrinkwrap...
