Well, I have a view, and will share it with you. The 6BTA Cummins is far superior to the Yanmar for a number of reasons:
First, it is a low rpm engine and should give longer life;
Second, it has been proven with over 7 million engines in marine, industiral and transportation applications;
Thrid, the parts are cheap and available anywhere;
Fourth, they (Cummins) are amazingly simple engies, with half the parts of the Yannies. Use the GM-style serpentine flat belt for the alternator and circulating pump, last thousands of hours vs. the fonky v belts on the Yannies that you have to adjust every 20 hours.
Finally, the Cummins have meat on their bones and get the torque, which is what a diesel is all about, from cubes not rpms. I love mine.
The only weak point in the Cummins 6B's is the Sherwood raw water pump where the quality of the impellers has gone down a lot in the last several years. Help is on the way, as Tony Athens in CA has commissioned some superior aftermarket impellers. He has the larger ones now for the 17000 series pumps and will have the smaller ones for the 15000 pumps in a month or two.
And a final note, most of the 6B's use Delco electrics - alternators and starters you can get at Pep Boys for a fraction of the extortionary costs of Yanmar or Vulva.
