Thanks for the quick reply Bruce. To answer your questions in the order presented:
1) Hours for failure STB 70-90 hours, Port 100 hours or so.
2)No all the blades do not wear evenly. Usually two or more brake off and disentegrate.
3) Total hours on the pumps =650 hours
4) Yes I have the big Perko bottle strainers. I never find anything in there, no sand just occasionally a small twig. I have gate valves always lubed w/ Corrosion X and checked.
5) What I did notice in the past is I had a cockpit problem. i.e. my boat was not all the way into the water when I first started it up sometimes especially in the dark. It took me a while to realize that the way my boat sits on the lift . Don't dare to start it up untill there is slack on the bow cables. They installed the bunks allowing for a list to transom for water drainage. This causes an illusion when you put her into the water to appear that she's in good while all the while the engine intakes are not in far enough. Seems like I'm a star pupil in the "School of Hard Knox" I now make sure no start up occurs until slack appears on the front cables. I know that most of my damage was from that. That 's the only commom denominator here. My old B25 ran from the same spot for 700+ hours on the same impellers. Never had to change them.So maybe my cams are damaged. Everything feels real smooth on both. I always use silicon grease (dielectric #7)when installing new impellers.
7) I do have a fresh water back flush system where the flush exits vis the pea hole on the pump housing to a thru hull. I then inject Saltex or equivilant into each engine for 15 seconds prior too putting it away. Dave K
