Thanks for the ideas. I'll probably stick with the screw approach, and maybe cover the heads with teak bungs (maybe not--she's a B31 and a few more exposed screw heads will blend right in). I know myself--if its easy to take off, I'll refinish it when needed. If its not, I'll decide it doesn't need refinishing for a looooong time. All the ideas really appreciated though.
