Capt. Dave,
How many hours during those six months?
Do all the blades wear evenly, are there grooves in the blade tips?

How many total hours on the pumps themselves?

Do you have sea water strainers or thru hull grates?

I had a customer from the Keys who had real trouble with sand pickup.
I installed oversized strainers and wrapped the baskets with fiberglass bug screening material to filter the sand out.

Most settled to the bottom of the strainer and he cleaned it out every other day.

the oversize strainer will allow more surface area so the wrapped basket won't reduce flow and will have more tendancy to allow the sand to settle to the bottom.
