When I checked into gas motors, I was told that the 496/8.1s came in a 385hp version, and the 425hp version. I was also told that the 425hp version made the extra power higher up in the rpms, and that it was really a go-fast boat motor--the extra hp would be wasted in a B31. Just a thought. I'd like to see pics. of your install (I have older gasser mercs).
