Al,
where are you located and what are you willing to spend. I have seen a nice 31FBC, well kept with gassers going for around 48k in Freeport Long Island. When I called to inquire I was connected with the yard where the boat is stored. Ususally nothing is set in stone and you may be able to negotiate a good deal. I remember when my Uncle first bought Windstar, he negotiated for 10g's less than the asking price. There are plenty of good deals out there, you just have to look and be diligent. I remember when Dave Diamond had spent several months travelling up and down the east coast looking for a Bahia Mar, and a friend of mine told me about one sitting on a guys front lawn for 2 years. I drove over, introduced myself, said he wanted to keep it and get it back in the water. We swapped numbers anyway and 6 months later he gave me a call. Needless to say, today Dave is a happy camper......correction, happy boater. Just don't be in a hurry, sometimes it works out as an omen. If the broker isn't staying in touch with you, maybe he really has nothing to gain by selling that particular boat. If you can reach the owner by all means do so, or else move on.
