Craig - Monel is still available in most shaft sizes, but the cost is staggering. It is very tough, but not real hard, and will wear in the packings about like AQ 22. Because of the toughness and non-cracking properties, is still the permier metal for fuel tanks. But not for the thin of wallet. I had a pair of 150 gal. monel tanks in my old Hickock 45 that were worth more than the boat. Andre' has a pair of 50 gal. monel saddle tanks in his B31 that are works of art. I have an oyster knife that a coonass friend made for me some 25 years ago from some monel shafting that has a flat tip not more than .010" thick that no oyster can twist off. Monel will rust a little, but it's just a surface rust and CX will stop that.
