Let me start by saying thanks for the response by all. They said the shafts were true enough but that where the old cutlass bearings were surrounding the shaft the wear was about 40/1000's. It doesn't wobble much when I slide a new cutlass bearing over it but it does wobble a bit. I'm running 330 hp gas so I will be hitting a few rpm's. The cost was for new aquamet shafts, and machining included. Not sure if it was AM 22 or not (I'll ask). I think I'm also going to have to drill out one of the old set screws in the strut since it seems to be coming apart. I don't know why it wore but I know it's an original shaft on a 1963 31. I'll probably replace both shafts while it's out and the struts are down since that seems to be my safest and surest option.
