John:
In addition to replacing the shaft, you need to figure out why it wore...otherwise you could be putting a new shaft in every few years. Tolerances measured in thousandths are impossible to see by naked eye...even a small bend in the shaft will cause unever wear...so will engine misalignment, bent struts etc. I had 1 3/8 AM22 shaft come out of my old 29 topaz and the wear under the cutlass was probably 1/8 inch all around!...i was lucky it didn't break...found out later that it was out of straight by 14/1000ths...not sure how they measured that...some sort of dial indicator with the shaft on V-blocks i think...still, you need to get everything back in line when you replace the shaft or you'll just keep having the problem

ps...500 or so sound reasonable to me..
