Clearance on a Bearng to shaft fit should be around .01-.015 total, depending on shaft size.

Anything more then .01 wear on the shaft I recommend keeping it as a spare and consider new. Wear of .015 and over I stongly suggest new.

$500 is for a new shaft or just to machine it? If its for a new shaft plus machining, what grade of SS? it seems way cheap. On the other hand if its just machine work, seems pricey.
