You have an advantage fishing off your own boat. You can do what ever you want. Having said that I would go for 30's and 50's. I have taken giant tuna with a 50T off a party boat. Chasing the fish makes the game much easier. I would not bother with 2 speeds until you get above 50's. It takes an 80 to really put a hurt on a fish. With an 80 you can crank up the drag, put it low gear and get some line. I would also check out Kevin Bogan, you can find his link on the Mid-Atlantic Rendezvous website, for custom rods. I just found out he can make a nice rod for almost the same money as a Penn Int'l.
