It was an all-star team from New Hampshire. At the time the team was supposed to be 18 to 21 years old, but I know Cuba had some players in their 30s.
Havana was the stadium I played at. It was the second game of our trip so the crowds were still coming to the games (22,000). We played games on both sides of the island, but by the end of the tour we were playing in the country and still drawing a sizable crowd.
Funny story, I missed a bus for a Vegas-style show meant for the team, so they put me and two other players in a taxi....needless to say the taxi guy took us someplace else, but it was next to a local bar. Drank for a while and then left, while walking back to the hotel I took my shirt off.....tough guy I was, at that time I thought. Well come to find out, the laws there are different and walking around downtown with your shirt off isn't legal. Guess it's like a woman here with her shirt off. Well, the cops (military police) carry AKs, they had me up against a stone wall saying something over and over....I was young then and started laughing and said I'm an American, I play baseball....and they let me go, I sure it was because I played baseball and they wanted to see the Americans get their but kicked.
I'd go back in a second, now that I know a bit of Spanish.
