Mike,

Simple... The GI is a shalllow bottom dweller and is very spooky when he finds himself constrained to the upper columns of deep water. When a "Predator", errrr, predator gets within a hundred feet or so of the skitsy GI, the wiggler sets up such a vocal racket that the game fish is called in like gobbling to a turkey, or honking at a flock of geese.

The sailfish doesn't give a tinkers damn about what live bait it eats other than will it fit into his mouth. Hell, he's possibly never even seen a GI before that moment...
