Phil,
On our '72 FB Sportfisherman, the stock 1-1/2" through-hulls are located right next to the shafts and are about 8" inboard. We still have the original pick-ups and strainers. It's tight, but it all fits. We repowered with Cummins 300HP 6BTA's. Made a few changes to the fittings coming out of the strainers to get to the raw water pumps.
The stock 1-1/2" are marginal compared to 2", but no problems so far.
