My B28 is rigged with what was called at the time "Sea Power" which has a separate alternator mounted on one engine and an inverter. It puts out a max of 5 KW, but I can run my 12,000 btu A/C with the engine at idle. It has been in the boat since 1993 and all I have done is maintained the alternator as I do the Yanmar alternators. Supposably pulls about 7 hp at max output. As long as you are running, you've got A/C power. And occasionally if it's too hot to sleep at anchor, I'll let the little Yanmar run at about 1100 rpm. It's not much more than a 170 hp generator engine anyway. The next day I'll run 'em at high cruise rpm for an hour or so to clean them up. Mobile Electric Power Solutions sells them now www.meps.com for about $3,200.00. It's worked well for my A/C power needs.
