I'm with you Uncle Vic, not sure how this hull number fits into the program. I am always glad to quote former Bertram engineer Lee Dana (at Bertram Yacht from 1961-1980s) who explained the numbering system to me. He emailed me that the first hull after the prototype was numbered #101. He wrote me as follows using my hull # BER012571172-314:

BER = Bertram Yacht
01257 = 1156th 31' built (01257 - 101 = 1156)
11 = November (layup month)
72 = 1972 (layup year)
314 = Sport Fish model

The model numbers are:
312 = Open (soft top convertible)
313 = Hardtop Sedan
314 = Sport Fish
315 = Fly Bridge Cruiser
316 = Bahia Mar
317 = Express Cruiser

For some reason the factory would deviate from the standard numbering code from time to time, and it's anybody's guess as to why those stray numbers appear.
