Increasing the rpm on the midsize engines helps with the hp increase.
Cylinder cc's are the key to hp on lower rpm diesels. But they also lead to weight and size.Smaller lighter diesels rely on rpm, intercoolers, boost pressure and injector size to develop hp.
Does this lead to quicker wear?
In some cases yes. In most no.Look closely at the fine print on the engine spec sheets.
The certifications they base their hp on are dependant on fuel temps.Fuel temp is a direct factor in engine output.
That's why the smaller diesels are comming with fuel coolers where as most large diesels already use them.BTW that 14 cylinder big diesel is a 102 rpm engine at 108,920hp. They use aux diesel engines to start them.
