Walter, I know not much about engineering, mechanics, electricity and things like that like a good many people on this board do, but what I do know is enough to appreciate and marvel at how those things somehow work. Hell, the Taurus cars they race in Nascar, I think , turn up 11,000 rpm. Check this out :

Outboards, I believe , are the same. Same blocks tweeked up to put out more hp at the expense of ?, long life, ...for what that's worth. Everything is a compromise.
