Without knowing altenator/regulator type I can't answer specifics but some systems will go up to 14.5 after startup and then settle down.
It can depend on starter load, how long the engine cranks, how clean the wiring is between the alt output and the battery, where the regulator picks up the sensing voltage.Here is a tid bit about deep cycle batteries.
Unless the charging system is setup specifically for deep cycle batteries, they will never, ever charge up fully which is 90% of the installations out there.Deep cycle batts require a slow charge, and prefer multi stage charging to bring to top voltage and capacity.
Engine systems charge at the highest, fastest rate which is fine for engine start batteries but not deep cycle.Deep cycle also don't have the same start current ratings as engine start batteries do.
This can lead to higher current draws from the starter and a sharper voltage declines because you are not starting with a fully charged battery.Deep cycle batteries will resist higher current flows because of heavier plate design. That's why they like it slow.
Will they interchange? Of course. But they will never perform as designed and the life span is cut short.
That's why there are different types of batteries.
