Battery isolator wiring

Picked up an ancient RV to make it easier to haul the brood to the coast and it has no owner's manual (company stopped making them in '90). It has a house and starter battery with a "master" button that is supposed to tap the house if the starter battery is dead. Of course it doesn't work, and half the time the starter battery is dead. Rather than a regular 1/2/both/off switch, the batteries are wired to isolators...I've got the manual for the chassis, but the wiring diagram doesn't include all this because it was done by the RV manufac. What do an isolator do, so I can figure out how they are supposed to be wired to make the "master" button work?
