To operate a six pack vessel and take people"for hire" the vessel must be Commercial documented. Must be admeasured by Coast Guard[must meet min. 6 ton requirement[31 does], Not vessel weight but a formula for carrying grain, next must have Master Carpentors signiture, as to when and who built it[foreign built vessel will not be excepted, Pearl Act for US boat builders] and finally a clear title from everyone who ever owned that particular vessel. This Federal requirement supercedes State law [Coastal Trade] and C.G. isn't going to document a vessel you don't own, or has a lean against somewhere And last but not least if the IRS audits your charter business and be sure your vessel is commercially Doc. Mine was done so long ago the Master carpentor, who worked on 31's still was employed by Bertram and they filled out the Federal form and returned to me.
