Understood. You dont have to cut a hole in the hull itself, the glass is fine, its the wood that absorbs moisture and creates an issue. Its not damage that does it, its time and the fact that the original job was less than adequate. First, you need to get the old ones out. I used a cutting wheel to cut around the bottom of the backing block and the pulled the block out. I then ground the inside of the hull smooth to remove any remains of the glass that was holding the block in place. I then made new, oversized blocks as per Capt' Pat's instructions, West System Epoxy, glass in between and on the bottom, beveled edges on the top. I then made some mud with West System and used it to bond the blocks to the bottom. Glass over the top of the block with 1708 cloth and that should do it.
As I responded to your previous post, I would absolutely do it while you can. I was shocked at how bad mine were, again, even though there was no obvious damage.
