I asked the same question when I first got it done. I had just had my props reconditioned to a high shine and was a little concerned at messing them up. The finish when new feels like a medium sandblasted surface. Is there some efficiency loss - i'm sure there is. Was it noticable - no. In the first part of the season there may be some loss of efficiency, but as the season goes on and the baby barnacles get attached to the untreated wheels the efficiency difference quickly tilts in the other direction. I'm sold on it. I get two years service out of each coating. There is some erosion around the hub area, but not enough to worry about. Unfortunately I didnt get to use the boat hardly any this summer and wasnt able to haul it out. There are large barnacles on all of the underwater gear with the exception of the wheels.
