I tried something a little different.Many years ago a customer removed his coupling in the water to install a shaft saver.
Realizing with the shaft saver, the prop was too far back, he cut(very badly) an inch off the shaft inside.He mangled the coupling trying to get it back on.
He then called me.
Unfortunatly the shaft was over sized, so I mic'd it and had the new coupling machined to fit.It was still tight and only went half way. When I suggested at that point the coupling be machined a little more, the customer got flustered saying I was wasting his time.
I presented him with a bill, he cursed me out but paid it and then had the audacity to ask how he could finish repairing it.
Well, I said rubbing my head.
If you can find a concrete sea wall, or bridge support, run the boat into it at about 5 knots. The sudden stop will force the shaft into the coupling.A few weeks later I saw the boat in the yard with the bow damaged.
It was then I decided not to renew my listing in the yellow pages and only work from referrals.
