strut backing again

O.K. let me try aagain. I have not suffered any damage to the hull. However,as a preventitive measure, I would like to go ahead and beef up the backing while the cockpit is completely naked. Can just the backing be replaced, do I have to cut a hole in the hull? Also what else should I think about doing or checking etc. at this point. I have read your article about redoing the backing pads however my case is diffent. Help Capt.!!
