Here's your sign?

If the key is sticking out of the shaft keyway about 3/16" where the shaft coupling is mounted onto the shaft what's that telling me please gents????

[The other shaft's key sits flush with the shaft end within the shaft coupling - as have all others I have ever seen.

I'm having new shafts installed and am jumping to all kinds of conclusions regarding this,none good.]
