walter....i think land use and zoning trumps everything in the town of east hampton...(i know you know this ..its for everyone else)...25 years ago the town was registered almost 2 to 1 republican...had had (with one notable exception) republican supervisors and town boards since the civil war....then about 1981. the republicans tried to allow condos on 3 mile harbor and in napeaque.........fired the planning director.........the result was no republican supivisor or town board majority for over a decade.....now the split is close to 50- 50 but i dont think you can divide it neatly by any sub group....i know very liberal locals...(real locals).....and very conservative city folk......dont forget many of the city folk are extremely wealthy.........they not lookin to pay more taxes.............................of course a lot of my friends are independants like me who vote for the best candidate regardless......just my take ....but no one who has ever been here can deny this is a very special and unique place............what.....no mcdonalds?.............................randall
