In Response To: Soundown Sound Proofing (BillC)

Bill, I have the same engines and did the Soundown about 10 years ago. Huge improvement, especially in the turbo whine at cruise. Use the 1" with the lead sheet core, not the vinyl. Use the Soundown aluminum mechanical fasteners you glue to the inside of the engine boxes, and double the density over what they say. Things are dirt cheap. And use the 3M spray adhesive and let it dry tack free before you mate the two glued surfaces. I did the top, companionway side and rear of the boxes and amazing the difference in not just noise, but the heat insulation is terrific, no more burning your butt while sitting on the boxes. For edge trim, use their new silver Mylar tape, 10 times as good as the old stuff they sent me years ago.

Make sure you clean up the inside of the motor boxes real good with acetone, do a little light grinding with a side grinder, wipe it again before you start to glue the mechanical fasteners in. I used 5-minute epoxy for the bases of the fasteners and it has worked good for 10 years, just a couple came loose, and it was my fault for not cleaning and grinding the attach points good enough.
