B20 Scuppers

Tommy--
I just got in on the thread about the low scuppers on the B20. The B25 is the same way. The way I solved the problem was to put those little round flappers on the outside of the hull. I can't remember what brand they were, but they are about 2-1/2" OD, have a plastic outer ring that holds a rubber flapper that seats on part of the plastic frame. They work very well, and keep almost all of the water out of the boat even when standing at the stern with the drain completely submerged. They offer no restriction on letting water out. On the B25 the drains are located right in the offset at the chine so the mounting surface for the flappers is not flat. I just screwed them to the hull so that they maintained their original flat shape, they filled in the voids between the flapper frame and the hull with 5200. Made for a very neat installation, and they have been perfect for over 15 years. Almost all of the new high end outboard boats use these flappers on the transom drains.
As far as the wet foam goes, leave it. I put over 500 lbs. of 4# density foam under the sole of my B25, with most of the weight being forward. It made the boat ride 100% better, all the I/O Bertrams need weight forward. Standard floation foam is 2# density (2# per cubic foot), but it will absorb water after long exposure. The 4# density is so dense that it won't, but the end result is probably about the same weight per cubic foot.
