I fished in Quepos over christmas.
I ended up on a 38 Bertram, It looked like a large cabin cruiser, I've never seen another like it? Ugly as could be. Black Hull and the boat was in poor shape. We originally chartered a different boat, but they switched it on us because of some mechanical problems. There was only 1 of 31 Bert in the harbor.
Sailfishing was incredible. We ended up 6 for 9. We raised another 1/2 dozen or so, and saw many free jumping throughout the day. Great crew, excellent seas, fantastic day.
Book your rental car early from a reputable place. Directly from Hertz or Avis. We lost 1/2 a day because we rented from some interenet source kind of late. They overbooked all their rental cars. A real fiasco. Dozens of customers with reservations, and no cars available.
Theft is rampid down there. Just be careful, leave nothing in the car, and always lock everything.
Be careful speeding, the police have their very own racket. We got several tickets on our way back to the airport on the last day of our trip. We were going a little fast the first time, but the next 2 times over the next 2 hours were ridiculous. 40 to 80 american dollars each time. Ouch! Highway Robbery!
Los Suenos is another nice fihsing harbor in the central area. Jaco is nasty, and Qeupos isn't much nicer.
