With my 1962 "31" tank I used a manuel pump and removed all the gas I could. I could easily reach the bottom rear [right below the removed plate] and found that the tank was designed with a small recessed pocket at the rear bottom to collect dirt, nuts & bolts, which was easy to wipe out with a rag. The tank looked brand new inside and the project was easier than anticipated. Not bad for a boat with a min. of 9,000 hrs. at that time.
