I would only be concerned on reseved capacity if you were going to use them in a deep cycle application, ie on the hook all night running appliances.
While the ca is about the same, the 1700 gives you pulse amps of up to 1700 for 5 seconds.
Most engines start within that time or less.
They are fine for the 6B engines. There are no modifications required for general charging like the glass mat or gel batteries.
They will take up to 15vdc. Anything higher will result in the battery off gassing thru pre set pressure releases
They also recover much quicker on charge than a wet cell. Most all charging systems limit themselves to between 13.5 and 14.5vdc. A quick check with a digital meter will tell you if the onboard charger has a problem. Same goes for the altenator.
Always check the altenator above 2000 rpm.It depends how you have the batteries set up for charging and the type of system you have.
The OD batteries recharge quicker and if the regulator is set to that bank, the wet cells may not charge fully.
Most onboard chargers isolate each bank but only monitor one bank for proper voltage.
Thats why I like the Sentry chargers as they monitor every bank. For engine charging, I take it you have them hooked up to an isolator to keep the banks seperated, correct me if I am wrong.
I do not like this type of set up due to the fact that voltage drop never allows the batteries to fully recharge under engine charging.
It would be better to connect both banks with a battery switch on/off for charging.
My personal opinion is not to mix battery types.
I have been able to get 6 years out of wet cel and gel batteries on trawlers where I have set up complete systems including an inverter/charger and a high outpur Balmar altenator with programable digital regulator.
But this is expensive and requires monitoring.
The OD batteries I feel will give you the same results and lifetime with much less hassel.
