Bruce, I have a couple questions for you, if you don't mind fielding them.
- From what I can see, it appears the PC 1700 is similar to a lead-acid 4D battery, at least as a starting battery. Cranking amp ratings are similar, especially at 32 degrees (I don't often start my motor at 0 degrees anyhow). Reserve capacity is only half that of a 4D lead acid, though. Is it reasonable to make that kind of a swap for starting a Cummins 6B?
- Are there modifications required for alternators to use these batteries? There appears to be a major concern to exposing the batteries to >=15 volts. How about the onboard battery charger - will I need to replace it (not sure of the brand, but is likely 15 years old)?
- Is it a bad idea to mix lead-acid batteries and Odyssey dry-cell batteries in the same bank for charging purposes (on an intermittent basis). So if I replace my starting battery, should I also replace my house bank?
Thanks in advance for your expertise on this topic!
