Raymarine Auto Pilot

It's time to purchase an autopilot. All of my other electronics are Raytheon/Raymarine. It seems like the logical choice to go with their auto pilot so that all of these units can talk to each other with minimal thought going to interface wiring-just seatalk patch cords. What unit would you gentlemen suggest. I know Dug is using a Raymarine unit....st8001 ? Do I need the gyro sensor & AST -costs$500 extra ?
The two 10 inch screens look realy trick flush mounted into the new dash kit's that Jk and I bought from Holtz.
Touching the right buttons on electronics in an overhead box while offshore in the rough stuff wasn't working. I am bringing them down to user level for safety and functionality.
