The skipper is correct, as usual. The engines should be forward (the usual place) and jackshafts used to keep the CG where it should be so the craft is not stern-heavy. From running my B25 with twin 3.7 Merc's with Alpha's, I can say that if I had any more weight aft it would be a mistake. CG may not be quite as critical as in aircraft, but still critical. Just look at all the B31-size Albemarle's with stern drives--all have jackshafts as far as I know.
