Randall,

When we are away, the heat is lowered to basic prevent freezing level. When it is super cold, we kind of heat with wood via the fireplace and supplement in the basement with a gas fireplace. The propane is so goddamned expensive that the free firewood I cut is far more compelling.

I am actually contemplating one of those outdoor wood fired boilers, as I have an endless supply of pallets I can burn courtesy of the shop here. We friggin' pay to get rid of them, so heating the house is a good useful way to rid our selves of them I think...

But I hear ya! Liz actually won't let me turn the heat over 66 (despite the fact that I pay for it, so I don't argue) and most of the time it is 62. The wood helps a lot!!!
